Summer in Piemonte

Last night Rebecca and I returned from a week of summer in Piemonte, Italy. Børge and Laila had invited us to their resort just outside Nizza Monferrato, close to Asti. We met Laila, Baard Unar and the King of Bling, Assan, at Sola airport last Friday after work, Børge, Lindis and Gry had already arrived in Milano when we took off.


Arriving at Villa Vigneto around 1AM, we only sampled a bottle of Barbera d'Asti before going to bed. The next morning we woke up to summer temperatures, clear skies, good coffee and a week of relaxation together with our friends.

We spent the week sampling the great foods and wines of the region, and we also did quite a bit of sight seeing, with trips to Nizza, Asti, Aqui Terme and Torino. We also met with Børge and Laila's wine making friends, Andrea and Karen. The day we spent with them was truly interesting, and gave us insight in the production of high quality Barbera wine. We picked up 5 bottles of their 2007, and also a Barbera based Grappa. All bottles made it home in one piece!


As the evenings were warm, we could sit outside with Børge and Laila into the night, talking and enjoying their company. Although the weather was mostly hazy and warm, it didn't start raining until we headed for Milano on our way home. Lucky us :)
