Linda in Svalbard - visiting the mines

Longyearbyen was built in the end of the 19th century because of all the high quality coal found in the mountainsides. The miners were the only people living there in those days, but now there are also scientists and people working in tourism. We can visit the mines, the closest is a 25 min walk from our house, and it is very interesting to look around - everything is just like it used to be half a century ago! It was too dark for pictures inside the mines, but here is a view from the entrance looking over Longyearbyen with my Italian friend, Mirco, in the front. A well spent Friday evening!
