Fall in the Mountains

It's early October and it is Norway, but we just had to try: A last hike in the mountains before the ice and snow start making conditions difficult. After a relatively dry and warm week we set off Saturday morning for Skredå, Sirdal where our hike was to start. We got there by noon, and had an enjoyable although wet walk into Støle, the cabin that we visited from the opposite side this spring. It took us about five hours to get there, and when we got to the cabin it was empty!

After taking care of our gear and clothes we enjoyed a very nice evening eating and playing cribbage. Linda and I won, but only managed to leave the opposition in the stink hole once.

That night we had a terrible storm. It rained heavily for hours, and the wind was tearing at the cabin. When we woke up in the morning it had cleared up, but outside was really wet. The night before we had only noticed one waterfall in the mountainside, and now suddenly we saw five or six!

We walked back again the same way, and only had one proper rain shower before it cleared up again for the rest of the hike. We enjoyed the hike and the scenery in the sun-light, stopping constantly for drinks and pit-stops :-)

A super weekend has come to an end. Tomorrow it's back to work for us, but the kids are going to enjoy a week of fall vacation.
