Reb in the Faroes

Hi,
Last week I went to the Faroes. I went because of work, but took an extra day off and had a great long weekend with Lis and her family before working Mon - Wed. It was a real blast from the past to see the lovely islands again and especially seeing Lis and all of her wonderful family.

I arrived Thursday evening, March 13th. Lis and Andras picked me up at the airport and drove me home to Hoyvík here they live, just North of Tórshavn. We sat up late talking and getting caught up on 1000 happenings the past 20 some years since I had been here last.

On Friday, Lis and I planned on a long hike to the highest top in the Faroes, Slættaratindur. As the day wore on, it turned out we were to experience celebrating a colleague's 40th birthday which involved a trip to the faroese wine monopoly, a dramatic car accident where the car in front of us flew through the air (no injuries believe it or not) and a steep, slippery and beautiful hike up Slættaratindur. It was an eventful day that I'll never forget.

Nearly the enitre day Saturday was spent visiting Emma. She lives in the basement at Fragilið 11 and Poul, Mariann and their two chraming adopted daughters from China live upstairs. The basement is fixed up very nicely and Emma seems very happy there. I had several 100 pictures with me on my pc and Andras connected the PC to the TV so Emma could relax and see pictures of the rest of the family. It was a delightful day. Emma came down with the flu the next day so I didn't get to see her again after Saturday. After visiting Emma, Lis and Andras took me through the streets of Tórshavn. Some things I recognised but most of it I didn't. But when we got to the harbor, things started to look familar again. Andras, Poul and Sofus have a boat together and we took a short ride out of the harbor towards Nolsoy. It was a real treat to see Tórshavn from the water again.

On Sunday, Lis, Andras and I walked from their home down along the coast to the open air museum where Andras has his office. It was a beautiful walk and I got a privat showing of the open air museum. After that we walked up to the museum of natural history of which Andras is the director. Here I also got a privat showing and it was amazing.

That evening Lis had the whole family over for dinner. Poul, Mariann, Johanna and Emma Helena came. Then Andras' brother Gunter and his three beautiful girls were there as well as Hanna, Andras' mother. It was very nice to see everyone again.

By Sunday evening, I must have got whatever Emma had and I was feeling pretty bad for the next three days at work. Three stores in the Faroes will be using our POS software and I was to help with the installation and give training. Work is work and I won't go into that, but the bug was much stronger than me, even though I went to bed at 8:30 PM the rest of the evenings I was there.

So now I'm home again, on 10 day antibiotic run and staying home alone getting well while Knut and the kids are on Easter vacation in the mountains until Wednesday. It's almost like punishment for going to the Faroes - but if that's what this is, it was worth it!
