Hiking the steps

June 25th - 27th

The 4444 steps going up the mountain at Flørli has always seemed like a fun trip. With none of the kids home, Ragnar, Rebecca and I left work somewhat early on Friday, and took the boat from Lauvik and into Lysefjord. Getting off at Flørli, we climbed to the top of the village, to find the tourist cabin empty, inviting and with a great view of the fjord and surrounding mountains.

We prepared duck for dinner, and enjoyed a few rounds of cribbage before going to bed. Saturday morning started out with a slight drizzle, but by the time we started climbing the steps the rain had stopped.
The hike up the mountainside is quite spectacular, and it took us about one and a half hours to reach the top at about 900 meters. Our next target was Blåfjellenden, located at the top of the valley of Fidjadalen. In the late afternoon the sun broke through the clouds, making the decent into Blåfjellenden very pleasant.

Both cabins at Blåfjellenden were full to the brim, and as we have experienced there before, some people party too hard and make the stay for others less enjoyable.

We left the cabin early Sunday morning, and hiked down Fidjadalen in spectacular weather. Warm, sunny and with a slight breeze. Had a great lunch of hardbread, sardines, eggs, herring and cheese by the river, and arrived at our destination at Månafossen around five. We had parked our car there on Thursday night, so getting transportation home was no problem.

Hiking with Ragnar is always fun. Next time we hope to have Kjetil come along as well, he's a great hiker, just like his dad.

Pictures will be added when we get home from vacation.

Knut
