June 4th - 6th
The weather looked like it was going to cooperate and we were looking forward to a nice weekend at the Papirfly cabin on Ørpholmen with Tim and the Tipples: Elisabeth, Tim, Tara and Tara's friend Ida. The cabin had been upgraded over the winter with new beds and this time the running water was almost working! Tim had worked quite hard the first evening trying to get it going, but we had to make due with filling a few jugs of water. No matter, we had enough water for a great dinner and washing up afterwards!
The morning arrived and the viking Tipples put on their swimming suits ready to jump into the ice cold but beautiful waters off the south coast of Norway. I think they're mad, they think I'm a wimp. But one should note that Elisabeth bathes all year long, no matter the temperatures. There are some things about living in Norway that I'll never conform to! Even Tara and Ida were in the water, but note that they were wearing wet suits! Later in the morning, Skogsøy came over to help out with the fresh water. We finally found that there must be a leak somewhere along the line, but we learned how to reset the pump on the neighbor island so we could have fresh water. After breakfast we took a trip into Mandal to shop for lunch and dinner, fill gas and other small things. It was a beautiful day.
Back at the island, we just relaxed on the deck, reading books and taking it easy while Tara and Ida kept us company. They are charming girls and it was fun to be with them. They showed Knut how to use the GameBoy and got him hooked!
Tim fired up the grill for dinner and we all had a great dinner on the porch. That evening all 6 of us played "Gruble" a word game and had lots of fun. It was a perfect start to the summer season!
