Faroe Islands May 2012

Thomas spent the spring semester in the Faroe Islands this year. He took biology at the university there and had a great time. During the 5 months there he lived with Lis and her family. He became especially good friends with their dog, Mikki. I'm just putting out loads of pictures this time, the captions will tell the story of the week Knut, Arnalug and I spent in the Faroes, meeting old friends, being turists and finally bringing Thomas back to Norway.

Here's a  load of pictures, not exactly in any order. :)

There's not a lot of crime here. This is the key to the basement apartment where we stayed. Lis' mom used to live here. She moved into a care center just weeks before we arrived.

It was a very windy day when we went out to Kalsoy.

Rock and roll!

Walking out towards the lighthouse on Mykines

2 of 70000 sheep, there isn't space for any more. They're every where. Even in the round-a-bouts

In Tórshavn, see the contrast between old and new.

Carvings on the old cathedral at Kirkjubøur

Kirkjubøur

A glass artist lives in Kirkjubøur. It shows.

Can't remember the name of this guy, or the village where it was taken. Lis will have to help me...

At the fish factory in Klaksvík, picking up fish for dinner

The ferry back to Klaksvík

Nordic tapas: Dried whale meat, dried fish, whale fat, hardbread, dried apples and beer. Yummy

The harbor in Mikladalur. This is where the seal woman legend is from.

And sunshine

There was even snow that day.

Mykines, check.

Knut and Arnalug in Mykines.

Just can't get enought of that view!

The narrow climb down the mountain side at Mykines.

The whole hillside is one big network of underground tunnels. Thomas stuck his arn all the way inn and found no end.

See the holes? That's where the puffins make their nests.

Thomas and Knut on the bridge.

The bridge accross the channel

Mykines is on my bucket list.

The form of the islands is incredible

Here you can actually see several islands.

Looking back todards the village of Mykines.

Our May 17th walk.

On May 17th. Jen's car is waiting for him.

Looking out over Tórshavn with Nolsoy in the distance. I love the profile of Nolsoy. It reminds me of a snake eating an elephant.

Eating sushi with Lis and her friends from Denmark.

Looking out over ...

Gjógv

The views are amazing

There are some people who have too much time on their hands.

In Gjógv, it's not as small as the TV show wanted us to believe.

Mikki - the best dog I have ever met. Ever.
